The Civic

July 12, 2009

Over the last few weeks we have been rather busy. Now I will catch you up. I will cover the house and other misc stuff later. Tonight is the car. Ive had the Black Civic for I think about 9 years now I got it used with about 40,000 some miles on it. I think now its pushing 190,000.

About two weeks ago I was driving down 401 here in down (about 60 mph) and the car just went dead on me. I decided right then it was most likely the ignition coil. I was about 5 miles from home so I just had it toed back to my house thanks to AAA. After getting it home I play about with it and went to advanced auto's web site. They wanted 80$ for an ignition coil. When I replaced the one in our Toyota Camry a year or two back it cost me 25$. So I hit ebay. I found a whole distributor (which the ignition coil lives inside) for 100$ (included shipping). Only problem was it took about a week to get here as it had to come all the way from Alberta.

While the civic had some down time I went ahead and replaced the fuel filter. I had some problems getting the fuel line leaving the fuel filter to stop leaking when I put the new one in but managed to fix that after a bit of playing with it.

After a week of waiting the distributor showed up. Only problem was the distributor cap was broken. So the civic currently has a new distributor w/ and old cap.

I was thinking about it a few days ago however and the entire time i've had the civic I have only had to replace two parts (aside from headlights, and parts replaced as part of regular maintenance). I replaced the distributor just this last month and we replaced the muffler twice. Once because of hitting it on too many rocks at camp and then it rusted. The second time was because it spent 3 winters in Ohio picking up road salt and rusted.

All and all though its still kicking and continues to be a good car.
